CHILD PROTECTION

All activites in which children and young people take part must be organised in ways that make sure they are properly protected.  Sports like horse riding aim to provide rewarding and secure opportunities for young people and one of the ways in which we can do this is to ensure that everyone working with children within our sport understand the essential good practices when working wtih children.

You can read the BEF Child Protection Policy here.

Organisations like the British Equestrian Federation, of which the BHS is a member, and SportScotland advocate that riding instructors, volunteers, parents and officials - in fact everyone involved with sport who finds themselves working with children - attend a Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course. This is now a mandatory requirement for all registered instructors.

You can find details of these courses here:  Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshops 2008

Disclosure Checking

Another form of protection is to require that all Instructors newly joining the Register and everyone new to volunteering with children in the Scottish horse world undertake a disclosure check.  This service is also available to anyone already operating within the industry and we anticipate that retrospective checking will soon be required.

How do I get checked?  For further information please click here

For further information on the background to Disclosure Checking go to the Disclosure Scotland website.
