REGISTER OF INSTRUCTORS

The Register of Instructors has been published to benefit both Instructors and the public.  All our Registered Instructors are BHS Qualified and have been professionally trained to provide safe instruction.  They are covered by Public Liability Insurance (except Category B Instructors - denoted by a * before their name although they are recommended to arrange insurance cover separately and we would advise you to confirm this with the individual instructor).  They have all signed a Code of Conduct, hold a current First Aid certificate and also a Child Protection Certificate.  All our instructors attend regular training sessions to keep their knowledge up to date.

YOUNG INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2008

What is the Young Instructor of the Year Competition?

2006 saw the BHS develop a new style of competition open to aspiring young instructors and coaches helping to develop and refine their coaching skills as well as encourage professional development.  The BHS is committed to increasing opportunity for anyone wishing to further their career and acquire the relevant experience and qualifications within the equine industry.

The initiative occurred as a result of the recognition for those wanting to pursue a long-term teaching career within the equine industry. Therefore the BHS has recognised the importance of not only giving entrants the opportunity to compete for a prestigious award but also to give young instructors the chance to train with a Fellow of the BHS.

The finalists from last year’s competition have proven how useful the entire experience was.

We really do encourage any instructor under 30 to enter.  You don't need to be a registered instructor, but you do need to be actively teaching within the equestrian industry and hold a minimum of the Preliminary Teaching Test.
You'll be asked to complete a short questionnaire about your teaching background and successful applicants will then be asked to one of the Regional Qualifiers.  All national finalists will receive a £100 training voucher, while the eventual winner receives a training voucher for £500, a prize well worth having to help you progress in your career.
